Paul Epworth - Voyager
Album Playback in 360° spatial audio + in person Q&A
Paul Epworth has five Grammys and an Oscar to his name – the producer behind Adele, Florence and the Machine, and The Stone Roses. But Voyager is something else entirely. This is his record. The one he has been thinking about his whole life.
It began in 2014 when Voyager 1 confirmed it had passed out of the solar system and into interstellar space. Epworth, a self-described child of the 70s raised on cosmic prog, sci-fi films, and his father’s record collection, started work on an epic concept album tracing the entire journey of space age music – from the earliest musique concrete to trap and footwork, taking in space rock, interplanetary techno, and cosmic disco along the way.
Recorded at his North London church studio using vintage gear – a giant modular synth, a mellotron, a real string section – Voyager features Jay Electronica, Ty Dolla $ign, Vince Staples, Kool Keith, and Lianne La Havas among others. It is a record asking whether we are building the future we once dreamed of, or whether we are now on a much darker path.
At Polygon Portal, beginning with a Q&A between Paul Epworth and John Kennedy, Voyager plays in full in 360° spatial audio. A record that was always reaching for the cosmos – heard the way it deserves to be heard.
