Edition Records- Donny McCaslin | Richard Spaven

MON, 25 MAY, 17:30 & 21:00

Edition Records: Donny McCaslin & Richard Spaven

Album Listening Session in 360° spatial audio + in-person Q&A

Two of contemporary jazz’s most distinctive players, brought together for one night by Edition Records.

Donny McCaslin – the saxophonist who led the band on David Bowie’s final album Blackstar – makes music that moves between cinematic post-bop and bold electronic experimentation. Richard Spaven, the British drummer behind work with Flying Lotus, José James and Jordan Rakei, builds rhythms that sit somewhere between live jazz and broken-beat electronics. Both make music that rewards close attention.

At Polygon Portal, albums from each artist, Light Of Day (Richard Spaven) and Lullaby for the Lost (Donny McCaslin), are being played back in full, reimagined on one of the world’s best spatial audio systems. The session closes with a live Q&A with both artists in the room.

The records you know, reshaped to move around you, above you, and through you. Saxophone lines appear in places you didn’t expect, drum patterns open up into the room, and details you’ve never noticed reveal themselves.

You’ll sit inside the music, the way Donny and Richard heard it in their heads. Where you’ll not just hear it, but feel it – creating a powerful connection to the music, the artists and everyone around you in the room.

Two landmark albums, start to finish, the way they were meant to be felt. Followed by a conversation with the artists who made them.
